Depth
Two very useful ways of creating a feeling of depth in a picture are size and colour.
The further away an object or figure from the observer, the smaller it appears and the lighter its colours appear. However, objects that are nearer to the observer appear bigger and darker.
Activities
Complete the three drawings at the bottom of the page. Try to incorporate the elements you can see in the examples above them. Pay special attention to the size of the figures, cars, trees and buildings, which appear smaller the further away they are. Add a pair of cars in the foreground of the third picture.
After that, colour in your pictures, using more intense colours for the subjects nearest to you and light colours for those further away.

A lead pencil, coloured pencils and felt-tipped pens.
